Fundraising Update

STOP PRESS!

Great news! We have received a grant of £4,900 for the sewage connection fees from the ‘Wem and Shawbury Local Joint Committee’. This is the full cost and enables us to complete the work and start using our toilet and kitchen facilities as soon as Mike can undertake the work.

We had come to the end of the road with Severn Trent, who proved to be completely and utterly unhelpful in every respect, to the point where it was obvious we would have to sue them to make them connect us, and that would take months and continue the unacceptable delays. So this Grant is the answer to a prayer, and I must thank Brian Williams for his advice about applying and his support of our application, and David Edge, who did all the paper-work for us and presented the case to the committee, so expertly. Many thanks for a job, well done.

Save Our Church Ceilings by raising £10,000 by the end of October
(Total cost of the work - £74,000)

As you know, we launched our ‘Save the Church Ceiling’ project in May, and within less than a month we received, or received promises amounting to over £5,000.

We have had some straight donations, for which we are very grateful indeed, and some amazing events – a sponsored 3 peak challenge, a sponsored run , the Daystar Theatre, The Pimm’s party, and a Bingo night.

So During November we look forward to receiving any final donations towards the cost of the replacement ceilings in the church – thank you all for your support and generosity. All supporters will be named in our commemorative book.

Fundraising Ideas

We do need more sponsors to make the £10,000 total. Don’t be put off if you can’t think of anything ‘major’ to do, my family are all saving 20p’s to see how much we can raise in 5 months, and I am hoping to sell little bits of calligraphy in Church. One day I bought an item of make-up in Boots using my card points, so put the cash I would have used to pay for it in a ceiling fund tin. In little ways I hope to raise my sponsorship – maybe you can do the same!

Please also remember that if you are a tax payer, you can ‘Gift-Aid’ your donation, and that increases it by 28% without any further effort from you. We do all the rest – we tell the tax-man and he pays the church 28% extra.
